Preparatory training camp in Spain

published: 16.04.2023

At the turn of March and April, the academy went to Estepona, Spain, to train the required number of hours on clay courts. More than 4 dozen players of all junior categories took part in the training camp. An extensive coaching team led by head coach Ondřej Dohnal was also present. The players spent most of their training days on the tennis courts of the Club de Tenis Estepona and Bel-Air Tennis facilities. The goal was to get used to playing outdoors and thus enable the juniors to make a smooth transition from covered halls to outdoor clay courts.
Clay tennis is physically very demanding, so during the training period emphasis was placed on improving the fitness of all players. Fitness took place both on the courts and in the nearby hills and on the sandy beaches of Spain's Costa Del Sol.

During their free time, the players had the opportunity to watch the training sessions of world tennis aces, who are preparing in Spain during the same period. Karolína Plíšková, who was preparing for the upcoming clay tournaments in Europe, trained on the courts in Bel-Air together with our players. Andy Murray, Anett Kontaveit and Roman Safiullin are among the other professionals that our players had the opportunity to watch during the game.

Another important aspect of the training camp was the opportunity to play an international match. We are therefore happy that all participants had the opportunity to gain international match experience. Academy player Viktorie Ulich, after the two-week training camp, continued with the U14 tournament in Estepona, in which she won without losing a set. Congratulations on this!
